Haulage With the Fordson.

[2255] Sir,—I have read with interest the article " More About the Fordson Tractor and Hauling," page 261 of the issue of The Commercial Motor for April 8th, and would like to make the following comments:— This firm has hauled seven-ton net loads with a Fordson tractor and an Eagle two-wheeled endtipping trailer, and has supplied to one firm five Fordson tractors and six Eagle end-tipping. six-ton trailers. This latter firm is regularly hauling sixton loads. The most efficient load is five to six tons, according to the bulk and the character of the road travelled.

The speed on a country road will easily average 12 rn.p.h.—not Li hours for eight miles.—Yours

To Improve the Parades.

[2256] Sir,,—,With reference to the recent Parade organized by the C.M.IT.A., I venture to suggest a few considerations to the committee which, in my opinion, would tend to attract competitors and at the same time put the competition on a fairer basis for all comers.

(1) Where a second man is regularly employed on a lorry, this should be stated.

(2) A certificate should be produced for each lorry, to the effect that the vehicle has been in daily employment for, say, at least 14 days previous to

B40 Parade to ensure lorries arriving in working trim.

(3) A minimum mileage should be imposed to prevent the entry of new lorries.

(4) An attempt should be made to form two classes :— (a) Open to firms where high advertisement value is placed on appearance, necessitating expensive painting and varnishing.

(h) Open to concerns employing mere load Carriers, run on a strictly competitive basis. (it is noticeable that very few haulage contractors enter.) (5) A statement should be issued after the Parade to entrants showing where marks have been lost, with a view to future rectification.—Yours faithfully,

[2257] Sir,—We notice in a recently published list of independent buses the name of the Orange hits service, and we should he glad if you would kindly give publication to the fact that this service is connected in no way whatever with our company.
