Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The former head of anti-truck crime team Truckpol is to head up a

new national anti-vehicle crime unit. Bridget Carter reports.

A NATIONAL vehicle crime division has been launched by the police to focus on freight, truck and car theft.

The unit, called the ACP° Veincle Crime Intelligence Service, (AVCIS) is being led by project manager Mark Hooper, who left London-based initiative Truckpol last month after being promoted to Inspector.

-It will look at everything that affects vehicle crime nationally, from car parks to stealing radios to exporting cars," Hooper reports. We have moved up north and have the accommodation sorted out. Now we are in the process of filling it with equipment and people in that order."

Hooper hopes Truckpol will eventually merge with the new unit based at Ryton-onDunsmore, Warwickshire. He believes the agency will fit well within the national division.

"It seems highly likely that Truckpol will be going to this new unit to form a focus desk up there," he adds."It is very positive actually, allowing us to really feed in truck crime and all that's associated with it straight through a national accredited ACPO unit." Truckpol is perceived to have a London focus because it is funded by the Metropolitan Police, says Hooper"' am still a Metropolitan Police officer, but I am on secondment to ACP°, which means that I've gone into a holding tank within the Met.

'1 think truck crime will be clearly defined and we are talking to the plant industry about the problems they are having as well. We are going to have separate focus desks and various aspects.

"At the moment we have four on the project team, but it is still in its embryonic state."
