Keywords : Truck Driver, Driving

Reading the letters page of the 14-20 September edition of Commercial Motor I felt compelled to write agreeing with the letter sent in by Leonard McKie.

When I left the RAF in 1974, I looked forward to a good driving job and a good income. Not so. Now I'm working five and a half days a week-60-65 hours every week. All I face is longer and longer queues.

Why do we not tax motorists holding up hauliers?

They never let us out of a factory or side road while on their urgent trip to the office.

We start before them and finish after them, often paid a meagre wage. God help us if lorry drivers ever put road rage into effect rather than driving defensively and avoiding God knows how many accidents, because they are professionals.

Maybe all trucks should carry signs at the back in large letters saying: "If this truck was not here, your car wouldn't be here either". DA Burgess, Leicester
