• Maintenance problems have led to the authorisation on the licence held by Harry Greene, trading as Rothesay Carriers, being cut from eight vehicles and six trailers to three vehicles and one trailer, by the Scottish LA Michael Betts. In addition, the LA suspended one of the remaining vehicles for a period of a month, and cut the duration of the licence so that it now expires at the end of next March instead of at the end of October 1998. Greene, of Queen Street, Rothesay, Isle of Bute, told an Edinburgh disciplinary inquiry that he had entered a contract with the Freight Transport Association to oversee the maintenance of his vehicles.

In issuing Greene with a final warning about his future maintenance standards, the LA indicated he would not be prepared to consider any application to increase the licence authorisation for a period of one year. He made an order prohibiting the use of the suspended vehicle under any other licence during the period of the suspension. He also required to be advised immediately should the vehicle concerned be sold, and the contract with the FTA produced to the Traffic Area Office within two weeks.
