Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

4 Ryan Transport, the Cardiff and Midlands-based operator that hauls three-million tonnes a year, has been bought by a management team.

The jobs of more than 100 employees and sub-contractors are safe, says Tony Davies, managing director and leader of the buy-out team, which includes RT's financial director Malcolm Newell and managers Edward Jones and Andrew Smith.

The Ryan group has given permission for the name Ryan Transport to be retained by the firm. "There will be no changes other than we plan to grow as quickly as we can," says Davies.

Any expansion will mean more work for sub-contractors and Ryan's own fleet, working out of the company's Brierley Hill site in the West Midlands and its head office and depot at Cardiff.

Ryan Transport is the latest chunk of the Ryan group to be sold, following the disposal of its South Wales mining interests early in September. Now the buy-out team is planning to diversify into shipping. Plans are at on early stage, but it intends to charter a bulk cargo ship to sail out of Cardiff, Newport or Liverpool.
