• The European Parliament plans to ban bull bars following increasing concerns from safety campaigners that they are dangerous.
Campaigners argue that bull bars significantly increase the chance of serious injury in accidents, even at low speeds.
The ban, which has to be ratified by the Council of Ministers and the European Commission, is part of a package of safety and environmental measures designed to make vehicles more pedestrian friendly.
The proposed ban has received wide support within the transport industry and motoring organisations, The RAC says: We believe bull bars are unnecessary and dangerous and support moves that would encourage people to take them off their vehicles."
If the measures against bull bars gain support from all the EU member states they could be in place by 1997.
