AA FTER saying he thought a wellknown London stores had misnanaged a licence application and tiviting them to re-apply, presenting vidence of need in another way, the Vletropolitan Deputy Licensing Authority, Mr. C. J. Macdonald, on Vlonday refused an application for a new 3 licence authorizing one vehicle to carry 'urniture removals and effects any disance. The applicants were William Harvey of Guildford, Ltd., and the appliation was annotated to the effect that if t grant was made, a B 'licence in the tame of T. White, under which 'two reticles were authorized to operate from he South Eastern area, would be urrendered.

Harvey of Guildford, Ltd., was a vholly owned subsidiary of the Army tnd Navy Stores, Ltd., of London, and

n July, 1961, Thomas White and Co., of Aldershot, was also acquired by them. White's held a B licence for two vehicles )ut both had now been sold, although )ne was in possession at the time of tpplication. Mr. M. Ogden, for the applicants, said hat what was desired was that Harvey's

■ hould have one B licence vehicle, and he business carried on by White's ;hould be undertaken by the vehicle now inder consideration. After a director of Harvey's had told he L.A. that at all material times from slovember, 1961, to February, 1962, there tad been no vehicles on the South Eastern licence of White's, Mr. A. W. Balne, for several objectors, said: "So there is not a vehicle to transfer at all? He submitted that there was no case to answer.

Refusing the application, Mr. Macdonald said that: 'It seems that the Army and Navy Stores might very well have had two vehicles at Guildford if they had had the right evidence. But what they did, it seems, is to draw a blank across their Aldershot licence and then started afresh with the idea of getting a vehicle based at Guildford on a Harvey licence. It cannot be done like that."
