OPERATORS who are thinking out specifications for future vehicle deliveries will he well repaid by an examination of the exhibits of accessory and component manufac

turers at Earls Court. The achievement of the fullest efficiency in transport greatly depends upon the many items of ancillary equipment added to a chassis. and a wide choice for buyers exists among the numerous different products on display. Here are some being shown for the first time: Joints for use in independent suspension systems of heavy vehicles are introduced by the Automotive Products Co., Ltd., Tachbrook Road. Leamington Spa (Stand 359 G). Application of the joints replaces conventional wishbone layouts. The lower joint carries the load and the upper joint is arranged to provide a variable degree of damping by means of a spring-loaded friction washer.

DS1 friction material, which has been developed by Ferodo, Ltd., Chapel-en-leFrith, for disc-brake pads on commercial vehicles, is shown on Stand 295 C. Its medium coefficient of friction is about 0.32 and it can withstand temperatures of up to 500' C. .

Dagenite Shednought series batteries are being shown in monobloc containers on Stand 405 NO by Peto and Radford, 137 Victoria Street, London, S.W.], All Dagenite batteries now have a special lead ring at the base of the terminal posts to prevent corrosion.

Specimen batteries from their new DL high-performance range are shown on Stand 242 0 by Nife Batteries, Redditch.

El4 Features of the new CK range of heavyduty batteries of Tungstone Products, Ltd., 10 Salisbury Square, London, E.C.4 (Stand 404 KN), include glass-fibre reinforced separators and polystyrene vent plugs, incorporating labyrinth-type internal baffles. Another new exhibit is the 12/D7X.1 12v. 130f!amp.-hr. 'monobloc for the Thames 4D.

An attractive winking-light indicator foi large vehicles is introduced by TricoFolberth, Ltd., Great West Road, Brentford, Middx. (Stand 300 DM). It is sealed so that water may not enter under highpressure washing, and there are two systems for making and breaking the current. • One houses a motor-driven flasher with precision-cut gears and contact system, and the other a time switch.

Intended for oil-engined vehicles with air brakes, • a compressed-air-operated windscreen washer is another new product. Winking-light direction indicators, retailing at £3 5s. per set, are shown by Wingard (M.A.). Ltd., Chichester, Sussex, on Stand 378 JO. Kits are supplied complete with lamps, bulbs, make-and-break unit, steering-column switch, warning light, wire and self-tapping screws. Priced at 12s. 3d.. a new Wingard rear lamp with a lens of in. diameter has a rubber base.

The company also show paraffin heaters which cannot easily be tipped over. The Sahara vehicle heater makes its debut on this stand. Circulation of hot water can be stopped by means of a valve during hot weather, so that the fan can be used only to re-circulate air within the vehicle. The fan is controlled by a rheostatic switch.

Two types of winking-light indicator are exhibited by C.A.V. Ltd.. London, W.3, on Stand 252 0. The condenser-relay type is new. The one working part, the relay, is operated through an electrolytic condenser which is hermetically sealed. Three types of lamp are available.

An electric windscreen wiper and art electric temperature gauge are exhibited by the AC-Delco Division of General Motors, Ltd., Dunstable, on Stand 414 N. The wiper is based on the Delco 258 motor. providing 55 r.p.m. for normal conditions and 90 r.p.m. in torrential rain. Parking is automatic and overload protection is inbuilt.

Operation of the gauge is by a heatsensitive engine unit with a negative tem perature coefficient. As temperature rises, the resistance of the engine unit falls, thus modifying the current passed to the dash ' unit, which is similar to a fuel-contents gauge. This new instrument can be used for either the water or the oil.

The company also show a new speedometer of the vivid-arc type. Instead of a needle, an orange arc advances from zero, rather in the manner of mercury rising in a thermometer.

A windscreen washer specially designed for commercial vehicles is shown by Tudor Accessories, Ltd., Beaconsfield Road. Hayes, Middx, on Stand 381 L. The capacity of the water container is about 3f pt. and 21 c.c. of water can he discharged by a stroke of the pump plunger Retail price is £2 7s. 6d.

A sun vizor with universal adjustment afforded by a telescopic swivel ball is also introduced, together with the Easifill paraffin sump heater retailing at £1 7s. 6d. It is unnecessary to detach the dome to light the wick: only the top gauze need be removed.

The compact new Radiomobile model 20X set may be inspected on Stand 358 G.

It is made by S. Smith and Sons (Radiomobile), Ltd. North Circular Road. London. N.W.:2. in a unit so that installation is simplified.

On Stand 262 A. occupied by Cornercroft, Ltd.. Queen Victoria Road, Coventry, may he seen White Peak number plates with a new non-porous porcelain finish, stated to be resistant to stain. This com pany also show the products of James Beresford and Son, Ltd., a subsidiary manufacturing folding wash-basin units suitable for mobile shops or long-distance coaches. Automatically closing taps can be supplied. Made of stainless steel, a flushing toilet unit is shown by Delaney Gallay, Ltd.. Edgware Road, London, N.W.2, on Stand 217 P It is intended for longdistance coaches.

This company also exhibit new heaters. including G 10 models for petroland oilengined lorries, ambulances, taxis and personnel carriers. Defroster units fot large wrapround windscreens are available..

An underseat coach heater draws in cold air which is heated by two radiators and blown out in opposite directions by two fans. The company have been appointed sole concessionnaires with manufacturing rights for French Avialex combustion heaters:

The K-L 3500 automatic petrol combustion heater is introduced by the KeyLeather Co., Ltd.. 5 Urswick Road, London, E.9 (Stand 392 LM). The unit is intended for personnel carriers and small coaches and the output is 1,400 B.Tti.U. per hour. Fifteen versions of the Norway cab heater are displayed, together with a windscreen demister with rubber suctionpad attachments.

The element tube may be bent by hand to suit the contours of curved windscreens, particularly those which are sharply radiused around the quarter-light. This unit will be available for 6v., 12v. and 24v. current. Also new is the K-L motor ventilator with six-bladed fan and wire meshes to filter incoming air.

Designed to give weather protection while allowing the inbuilt electric fan to act either as an intake or extraction unit, the new Ashanco motor ventilator is exhibited by Thomas Ash and Co., Ltd., 19 Rea Street South, Birmingham, 5, on Stand 347 PG. The motor is wound for either 24v. or 12v. current.

The new SVB sliding and hinged-panel window is exhibited by G. Beaton and Sons, Ltd., Victoria Road, London, N.W.10, on Stand 241 0. The sliding section runs on spring-loaded nylon blocks, and the tumbling section is operated by an eccentric lever. Both parts may easily be detached from the outer framework in case of damage A driver s seat and a coach seat arc introduced on Stand 303 CD by A. W. Chapman, Ltd., Ranelagh Gardens, London, S.W.6. The driver's seat is fully adjustable and patented tropical-type ventilated cushions and squabs are available, together with folding arm-rests. The coach seat has adjustable cushions, backs and foot-rests.

Made of p.v.c.-coated duck for normal use and Ganlon-coated duck where resistance to oil is required, flexible wing flaps are shown on Stand 348 PG by Gandy, Ltd., Wallasey, Cheshire. Ganlon-coated flaps are stated to resist better than rubber deterioration caused by contamination with oil and fuel.

The new Dulux 98 coach finish, quickspray enamel and Belco 300 nitrocellulose finish may be inspected on Stand 260 A. occupied by Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. (Paints Division), 1.C. House, Millbank, London, S.W.1.

As sole distributors for the product, Kerry's (Great Britain), Ltd., Warton Road, London, E.15, display on Stand 258 AO the Allcon cooling and dispersal disc. It is made of malleable steel and is in. thick at its periphery, tapering by stages of 1/32 in. to in. at the centre. It is intended to be fitted between twin rear wheels to dispel se stones which may lodge there, and thus enhance tyre life. Air is diffused and improves cooling.

No machining of existing piston grooves is necessary for the fitting of the Special Oil Saver piston ring, the latest type made by Sheepbridge Engineering, Ltd., Chesterfield, and shown on Stand 306 DL. The ring has an expander which does not rely on the back of the ring groove for its cylinder-wall pressure:
