Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE denationalization of the State bus companies, is being urged by Ripon Conservatives. Col. M. StoddartScott, M.P. for Ripon, said last week that the Ripon Division Conservative Association were seeking to move a resolution at the party conference at Llandudno next month urging the Government, in order to improve passenger transport, to denationalize road passenger services.

He said the Government should consider in the near future the denationalization of all the 14,000 buses owned by the British Transport Commission. Col. Stoddart-Scott commented: "It has been proved that where the bus company is under the same ownership as the railways, healthy road-rail competition is inconceivable. This is monopoly in its worst form."

The Conservative Party had pledged itself to denationalization, and the Government had shown no hesitation in carrying out that pledge with regard to goods transport. The time had now come to free passenger transport.
