A Driver who Considers that He has Been Wrongly Convicted.

[4010] (Lanes.).—Roadside incidents of the kind often give rise to hard swearing in a police court. We, on the statement of the ease as put before us, do consider that you have been badly treated, and that your employers will agree. Such cases, however, are settled on the evidence before the magistrates, and there appears to be no remedy of any kind, unless you can arrange, if you think it worth while, to seek to have the conviction set aside, on the ground that it. was against the weight of evidence. Such proceeding would involve expense, and under the existing conditions it is probably better to accept the grievance which exists than to spend the further time and money on seeking to gain doubtful redress.

[4011] (Chars-habancs).-1f the action of the chief constable has been taken under the Defence of the Realm Act, in accordance with the Proclamation of the 18th August, we are afraid that you have no remedy, although the discrimination against you seems to be an unfair one on the face of it. . The police are entitled to hold that, the tramway-company service is in the interests of the public, and that yours is purely for pleasure purposes. The Police are, not entitled to stop you, ag we read the Order, if you can adapt your chars-h-bancs to run on paraffin, or on coal-gas, as the Order prohibiting their use refers only to motor spirit. You may possibly be able to utilize your chars-is-banes, with a view to earning money, for the conveyance of wounded soldiers or munitions workers. Repairs to Crankshaft, or Renewal?

[4014] (South Wales).—You should be able to have the crankshaft trued up in the lathe. You may find it necessary to have the bearings ground, and this would, in all probability, mban the renewal of sortie of the bushes. There would, however, be no necessity, in the ordinary way, for the crankshaft to be renewed.

Failing to Carry Munitions for Want of Petrol.

[4015] (Stockport).—It seems to be of very little use writing to the Control Committee. We understand that its delivery of letters still amounts to thousands a day. We suggest that you send a-telegram, addres'sing it, Ford, Petrol Control Committee, 19, Berkeley Street, W., stating that you are on the point of failing to carry out your business, which is the actual conveyance of munitions for war work, when you should obtain what you require. We are glad to note that you have followed our advice and arranged for a regular delivery of your " CM." You will agree with us that every little helPs in war time.
