• Eddies son Edward moves Eddie Stobart to rented premises in Greystone Road, near the centre of Carlisle. Fleet strength is eight vehicles (predominantly DAFs) and there are 12 staff on the payroll. Company office is soon a Portakabin in the yard that also doubles quite regularly as Edward's place of sleep.

• Tradition is established in personalising all company vehicles with a girl's name. First name used is 'Twiggy' — on a second-hand OAF — while other names that followed were 'Tammy', 'Dolly', 'Suzi' and Tina'.

• First curtainsider trailers brought into service, allowing a faster turnaround (when compared to traditionally sheeted flat trailers) and the chance for the signwriter to broadcast the Eddie Stobart name.

1977: More regular loads being sourced through Metal Box.

Company turnover is now E455,000.
