Cemex puts MAN in the mix

CEMEX HAS INVESTED £2.9m in 40 new MAN TGS tractor units, replacing existing vehicles in its UK cement operation.

The trucks will operate from Cemex's South Ferriby, Lincs plant, and deliver the two million tonnes of cement the firm produces each year.

To date, 30 of the new 6x2 26-tonne 440 TGS tractor units have been delivered to Cemex, each fitted with MAN's automatic gearbox, as well as Gardner Denver XK 12 Hyrdopack and blower units.

Cemex logistics fleet engineering manager Paul Clarke says: "We chose MAN because it doesn't use AdBlue, which would have been an additional cost.

"We based the decision around the whole-life cost

ing and because the CO2 emissions are a lot better than the previous MAN Euro-4 model. So far we've seen a 3%-5% increase in our average mpg."

The new trucks join Cemex's 1,000-strong mixed-vehicle parc consisting of Volvos and DAFs.
