Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Who are Ireland's most outstanding operators? The Irish Road Haulage Association aims to reward the cream of the crop. Patric Cunnane reports.

Who are the best operators in the Republic of Ireland? Who embodies the highest standards of professionalism, customer service? Who keeps their vehicles in tip-top condition? It's time to answer those questions once again as the Irish Road Haulage Association, together with its sponsors Commercial Motor, communications specialist 0, and accountancy firm Dempsey Mullen, launches the IRHA Road Transport Awards 2005.

The awards were launched in 1999: since the beginning they've been supported by Commercial Motor and its former Irish supplement Commercial Motor Ireland.

Once again the hunt is on to shortlist those firms which exemplify the best of Irish haulage in the national and international arenas, with classes for large fleets and small.

Owner-drivers, who make up the majority of the industry, have their own category

Special contributions

There are two special awards for individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry: one for an operator who is deemed to have shown special merit during the year; the other for IRHA council member of the year, recognising the work of those often unsung heroes and heroines who organise and lobby on members' behalf at local and national level.

So if you think your firm should be nominated for one of these prestigious awards, or you would like to nominate another firm or individual, contact the IRHA for an entry form. Entries close on 1 December; the winners will be announced at the IRHA annual conference next Easter.
