Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Stuart Thomas gives us his regular round-up of the way the newspapers have covered the transport industry this week.

Public anger over traffic wardens has reached such levels now that NCP, Britain's biggest parking company, has taken extreme measures, according to The Observer.

With threats, intimidation and racist abuse aimed at the ticketmeisters spiralling out of control ('enlightened' Mancunian shopkeepers recently put up a poster of their local warden titled 'The fat bitch traffic warden from Mars' —shouldn't the Daily Sport be told about this potential extraterrestrial scoop?), chief executive Bob Macnaughton has the solution: issue staff with brightly coloured uniforms!

"Drivers cannot accuse [wardens] of lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce with a parking ticket," The Observer explains. NCP attendant Mike Grey eagerly agrees: "Before we were in navy and people said 'I never saw you hiding', whereas now we have a high visibility."

Which leaves the rest of us wondering whether it has just given the lunatics something brighter to aim their crosshairs at. r.17=■•"1:".= ..""n

usber The picture of this little et girl sit girl precariously sat on the dashboard without any safety restraint while the driver chats on his mobile is frightening," Sgt Steve Walker told The Sun after coach driver Jack Webb admitted driving without due care. And for due care, read driving a coach while allegedly using one arm to talk on his mobile and the other to close his window, presumably as it was getting draughty for the seven-year-old girl sat cross-legged on his dashboard.

Webb was not in court, the tabloid says, but apparently explains in a letter: "I have now thrown my mobile phone away." So that's alright then.
