By a Bill recently presented to the Argentine Congress, it is proposed that all interstate lorry and bus traffic shall be placed in the " common-carrier " class. Under its provisions, motor companies operating between the city of Buenos Aires and the provinces, or within the 10 national territories—but not those operating within the boundaries of a single province—must have a concession from the Government.

Authority to issue the concessions would be given to the Director-General of Railways, but they will not be granted if it be felt that existing transport facilities (rail or motor) are sufficient or can be made sufficient.

A Steel Moving Floor For Lorries.

Hardy et Cie., of Montigny-lesCormeilles, is marketing a moving floor for lorries, in which the floor is built up of transverse steel plates hinged together and traversed by roller chains on each side, these being operated either by hand or power. The forward end of the floor, which is wrapped around a drum at the rear, is attached to a frame supporting the front end of the body.

It is claimed that in 30 minutes the moving floor can be adapted to any lorry, without drilling being necessary.

A New Long-life Battery.

Al new vehicle battery, carrying a two-years' unconditional guarantee, is announcedby Exide Batteries, Exide Works, Clifton Junction. The unusually long period of the guarantee is made possible, amongst other things, by double separation of the plates, perforated ebonite sheets being used in addition to wood separators. Wood separators are, of course, already used In the standard Exide battery, and the ebonite diaphragms in the Double-Life battery—as the new type is called— provide an additional armouring for the positive plates' thus increasing the life of the cells. The standard Exide 85amp-hour battery costs £2 15s., whilst the Double-Life type costs £4 5s.

Guy's Popular 4-toriner.

A new booklet dealing with its 4tonner has recently been issued by Guy Motors, Ltd. This model is avail 1314 able with normal or forward control, and incorporates in its design a four. cylindered engine, a four-speed and reverse gearbox, a single dry-plate clutch, and an overhead worm-driven rear axle. The booklet contains a detailed specification of the chassis, seine good illustrations of its main components, and pictures of vehicles.

Death of Pirelli's Founder.

A message from Milan, Italy, announces the death, at the age of 4, of Senator Giovanni Pirelli, the founder of the great rubber-manufacturing concern

which bears his name. He leaves behind him an enormous fortune. Born in humble circumstances at Bellew), a small town on Lake Como, he made his way by dint of hard work.

Commers for Norway.

We learn that Commer Cars, Ltd., Luton, has received from its Oslo distributors, an order for 13 Centaur short-wheelbase models for the Norwegian road authorities. These are for use in connection with road work.

Encouraging the Italian Industry.

The Italian Government, with the object of encouraging users in that country to purchase only Italian-built vehicles, has adopted a new measure which provides that lorries and tank wagons of between 3-ton and 5-ton capacity, and agricultural tractors, shall be free from tax for three years.

Protecting Users in Ireland.

At a meeting of road-transport users, recently held in Belfast, it was decided to form a North of Ireland Road Users Association. Mr. T. H. Daniels, of Belfast, was elected president, Major M'Gowan, of Ballymoney, vice-president, and Mr. H. Reid, of Belfast, honorary secretary.
