Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The latest product of the Clews Petersen Piston Ring and Engineering Co., Ltd., West Heath Works, Mill Lane, West Hampstead, London, N.W.6, is a slotted scraper-ring, which incorporates the well-known double-coil principle, and has been specially designed to afford efficient lubrication.

It is claimed to prevent an excess of oil from passing the piston, when the cylinder bore is badly worn, thus eliminating the immediate need for a regrind. It is claimed that the new type of ring cannot become clogged with carbon deposit, and that carbon formation above the ring is definitely retarded. The rings fit in the existing grooves and are manufactured in sizes suitable for any make of engine.

Steel Barrel Tanks in Demand.

The Steel Barrel Co. (of Uxbridge), Ltd., Pleenix Wharf, Uxbridge the products of which include tanks for carrying many kinds of liquid, has received an order for 17 large-capacity wagon tanks of its patented DD shape, which gives an unusually low centre of gravity, from Trinidad Leasehold; Ltd., of London.

There have, during recent months, been some interesting developments in connection with the design and manufacture of containers for mounting on motor chassis, and the company is now supplying tanks for such fluids as milk, molasses, ink, beer, syrup, petrol, etc., these being made from special Staybrite, Birmabright and other stainless steels, as well as aluminium and duralumin.

The Lubrication of Air-cooled Engines.

A new booklet on lubrication has just been published by Shell-Mex and B.P., Ltd., 148, Shell Corner, Kingsway, London, W.C.2. Although of little interest to users of large commercial vehicles, it should be instructive and helpful to those who run delivery vans fitted with air-cooled engines, as the booklet covers the general principles of lubrication as applied in particular to small engines of this type, of both the four-stroke and two-stroke-cycle. It is well illustrated, and, in addition to the informative contents of the text pages, contains some useful tables.
