Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Demand for used Iveco, Oaf, MAN, and Mercedes-Benz 1.5-tonners Is brisk, with trade prices close to or slightly above book values according to George Alexander, chief editor, commercial vehicles, at Glass's Information Services.

Tippers and dropsIdes of all types and sizes are also doing well, he adds. Second-hand tippers are especially thin on the ground, even If they no longer command the premium prices that were commonplace a couple of months or so ago.

"The best used tractive units continue to make headway in a market that has noticeably stabilised over the past six months," Alexander adds. "Prospects at all weights are encouraging, and hopefully this momentum will be carried through to the end of the year and on into 2003."

"Prices are holding up well, but the guides aren't always In sync with what's happening," says Steve Smith of Independent dealers Smith Brother Services, based near Whines. Some of the less desirable trucks aren't worth as much as the guides state, while same of the more desirable ones are worth more.

"Bidders are paying retail prices at auction for the most sought-after tractors," he says.
