A number of large, high-prof fleets are currently using Bandvulc KPI system, including Argos, Ai Foods, Baker Group, Freightlin Hartshorne, Serco and Tesco. b Bandvulc believes that smaller flee can also benefit.

Earlier this year, for example, supplied drive axle and trailer tyri to Frome-based JR Hardin medium-sized fleet. They were fitt and are maintained in-house t Bandvulc has been monitoring the regularly ever since.

Traditionally JR Harding has be! 100% Michelin—for more than years in fact, says Ray Harding. B importantly, the Bandvulc product very competitively priced.

"Today, it's simply not enough say you can get three lives out of chelin casing when your pence per °metre costs are significantly ;her," he points out.

The Harding fleet currently uses mtinentals on the steer axles but is iing out Bandvulc's BD1s on the ive axles and XZA Bandvulc moulds on the trailers.

JR Harding's fleet doesn't cover a rficularly high mileage. "We double lit a lot, but only average around 1000km a year," Harding reports. (eve always monitored our tyres redly and managed to keep tyre sts below the 2p/mile mark, but it (es a couple of years to really get a ?,I for a particular tyre."

Argos runs 350 tractors and 1,000 mi-trailers. Bandvulc manages the Ts in all eight of its 'mainline' depots d Argos fleet engineer Roy :Crudden reckons that KR is an 'ective management tool.

"We can still use independents," points out, "but Bandvulc controls r tyre management and issues a single point invoice once a month, detailing everything, job by :lob, that has been done to all Argos vehicles, across the UK."

This includes a full report on all removed and repositioned tyres; their respective tread depths and serial numbers; and summarises average tread depths of removed tyres over a three-month period.

Site managers

From the report, McCrudden can see when depots are taking tyres off too early so Argos is able to educate fit ters and help she managers to , A

reduce their tyre spend. tio Argos was among the 0,4

first firms to join the scheme over a year ago, and from the information received McCrudden is able to manage the fleet's tyres much better than before.

One major factor is that while other large tyre companies insist that you stay with their supplier and service network, Bandvulc is happy to let you choose your own tyre supplier.

"This is especially useful EF you have a really good outlet close by" McCrudden remarks.

"There is an on-cost but I regard it as a total win-win situation," he adds. it collates important informa tion that assists our fleet management, and gives us some pricing advantage over using other brand equities too."

"We fit Bandvulc on drive axles and trailer axles but without being tied into their product," McCrudden concludes. "And while Bandvulc benchmarks competitive products by measuring and monitoring whole tyre lives, we are able to measure Bandvulc products too— hence our win-win view."
