given to drivers with dispensation—that is those having driven a vehicle up to 10 metric tons gross vehicle weight during the six months before legislation in January 1976.
The situation that is worrying us as commercial vehicle distributors, is this. Will there be time for legislation to bring this into force on January 1, 1976?
We would refer you to CM September 26 in which it was reported that drivers under 21 years of age on January 1 next who could prove the relevant experience would be granted hgv licences as of right.
This dispensation referred to vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes (7.38 tons) gross if the driver had given them for six months in aggregate before January 1.
In the same issue, it was reported that the DoE had stated that the new regulaions would be brought into force on the date stated. (See page 2.)
