MR. J. WALSH has been appointed assistant engineer (western area) of the Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd. He was previously development engineer of Monocam, Ltd., maker of fuel-injection equipment. He served an apprenticeship with Leyland Motors. Ltd., and afterwards joined the London Transport Executive.

MR. P. W. DARNELL has been appointed assistant secretary of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd.. in succession to MR. I. D. PALMER, who has taken up a similar position with Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd. MR. A. MUNRY has been appointed southern area superintendent of Ribble. succeeding M. E. G. DasvEas, who has become traffic manager of East Midland Motor Services, Ltd. M. W. T. E. FINDER has been appointed assistant to Mr. Munby. MR. R. RurrEa has resigned from his position as Ribble Kendal district traffic superintendent and has been succeeded by MR. W. K. BATTERSBY.

SIR ARTHUR SALTER has been appointed to succeed LORD SwiNrcea as Minister of Materials when he relinquishes that post on December 15.

M. ROY WA ISON, advertising manager of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., has completed 25 years of service with the company, the youngest member of the staff to do so.

• COL. JERRETT IN DEMAND THE East Midland Division of the Traders' Road Transport Association is to hold its autumn meeting on December II. Col. A. Jen-ett, president of the Association, will be present and Mr. S. C. Bond, divisional chairman and national vice-chairman, will preside.

The meeting. at 2.30 p.m.. will be preceded by a luncheon at the Trent Bridge Hotel, Nottingham, at 12.45 p.m.

Col. Jerrett will also speak at the annual dinner of the Wolverhampton Area of the T.R.T.A., to be held at the George Hotel, Wolverhampton, on December 2.

The annual dinner of the West Midland Division will be held on February 25, 1953. at the White Horse Hotel. Birmingham. 3.

LEYLAND EXPORT EFFORT

AN upward trend in the exports of Leyland Motors, Ltd., has been apparent throughout the year. Although the volume is only a little more than 3 per cent. above the 1951 level, this figure is misleading, as overseas shipments have grown yearly, so that each annual increase diminishes when expressed as a percentage.

Comet 90 lorries have made the greatest contribution to this year's exports.

B.E.T. PRIZE FOR PAPER ACASH prize of £100 will be offered in 1953 by the British Electric Traction Co., Ltd., for an original paper which, in the opinion of the council of the Institute of Transport, makes an outstanding contribution "to the advancement of the science and art of road passenger transport operation and administration."

CORONATION TRAFFIC T RAFFIC arrangemertis for coaches I during the Coronation period are the subject of negotiations between the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association and the Metropolitan Police. They are not yet completed, because of certain proposals to extend the processional route.

SUPPORT REAFFIRMED

SUPPORT for the Transport Bill was reaffirmed by the central committee of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce at its half-yearly meeting in Edinburgh last week. The view was held that denationalization should proceed with as little disruption as possible for the industrial user.
