THE Licensing Authorities' tough line with operators who fail to appear when called to disciplinary inquiries was continued at Nottingham last week when a Derbyshire operator, Spondon Haulage Ltd, of Spondon, had its 0-licence for five vehicles and five trailers revoked.
The company had been called before the East Midland LA, Mr C. M. Sheridan, because DoE vehicle examiners were dissatisfied with the standard of vehicle maintenance. When the case was called no-one from the company was present.
Mr J. Craig, a vehicle examiner, said that despite many promises of improvement there had been no change when he last visited the premises. There had been two recent vehicle prohibitions and a position had been reached where he could not go to the premises or inspect a vehicle on the road without having to issue a prohibition.
Complete disregard
Revoking the licence, Mr Sheridan said there appeared to have been a complete disregard for public safety and it would be irresponsible to allow the company to continue to operate.
A letter would be sent to Spondon Haulage informing it of its right of appeal and consequent suspension of the decision pending its determination.
