• A lower-slung version of the Norde rubber-suspended tandem-axle running gear has been introduced as an option by North Derbyshire Engineering. It has been designed specially for tankers and the upper A-brackets, which absorb brake torque as well as locating the axles, are lower than usual so that the tank can sit as low as possible.
The upper linkage has been kept basically the same except that there are lower attachmentpoints for the two triangular torque arms. As a result of the revised design, the effective height of the running gear within its sub-frame has been reduced by 6.75in., allowing ample space under the tank for pipework without risk of interference. It is said that the overall height of an empty tank trailer with this suspension is now only 9ft 3in.
