in South Wales is the Dennis fire-engine shown in the accompanying illustration. This is a " Light 6 " model with a pumping capacity of 500-600 g.p.m. The two-stage turbinetype pump is housed in a recess in the rear of a capacious limousine-type body. At each side of the pump are two longitudinal tunnels for the accommodation of the four 8-ft. lengths of 4-in. 'suction hose, whilst a throttle control for the engine is located within convenient reach.

In addition to its two transverse seats for the crew, the body affords extensive locker space, advantage being taken of the intervals between front and rear wings at each side to provide boxes for standpipes and for other gear. A recess in the after part of the roof allows the telescopic ladder to lie at a convenient angle; this piece of equipment can be released by a handle projecting downwards from 4Ihe front gantry into the driver's compartment. A valuable fitting is the floodlight mounted -above the near side of the windscreen. In livery, the , appliance conforms with the standIrd of the times" battleship grey "-which, however, will form a useful primer when the appearance of fire-engines can once again be normal.
