and the only thing the company spokesman had to say was "Our investigations have led to suspect criminal manipulation". If this magazine was to lose two quid through "suspected criminal manipulation" there would be uproar, shut-downs and fighting in the streets.
The attention was initially focused on the vehicle company's headquarter's staff in Wolfsburg but as investigations continued into the huge currency loss the chief prosecutor was last week directing his efforts toward Frankfurt, West Germany's securities, banking and finance centre, where VW's stock dropped by 10 per cent.
Off the mark, as they say in Germany.
