DELIVERY TRUCKS should be given priority treatment as part of any plan to tackle congestion in Britain's cities, the Commons Transport Select Committee was told last week.
The committee was considering the draft Local Transport Bill, which includes proposals for congestion charging schemes.
Officials from the Freight Transport Association (ETA) told MPs the bill should be amended to make it a statutory duty for local authorities to consider the needs of freight operators. It argues that congestion charging should be accompanied by shared priority lanes, changes to delivery curfews and investment in public transport.
