Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Conservativecontrolled London Boroughs Association (LBA) is expected to call for the abolition of the Greater London night and weekend lorry ban when its main association meets on July 24.

The meeting will consider the recommendation of its housing and works committee which met on June 19 and voted to seek the ban's abolition.

If the recommendation is ratified by the main association, then the LBA will join the Road Haulage Association and Freight Transport Association in lobbying the Department of Transport for the abolition of the ban.

The FTA has welcomed the LBA's move_ "We basically see this as support for all our comments about the lorry ban, and though the Conservatives do not have a majority of London borough councils, it will all help. It is encouraging to see them understanding the ETA's views," a spokesman said.

The Labour-dominated Association of London Authorities

says that it will fight any moves by the LBA to seek the removal of the London lorry ban.

"We agree with the findings of the report by the Association of London Borough Engineers and Surveyors which said it is still too early to evaluate the effects of the ban," an ALA spokesman said.

The recent vote by the LBA's housing and works committee further polarises London borough's attitudes towards the lorry ban along party lines.
