Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Tayside Region's roads and transport committee wants to oust three directors from the board of the Tayside Public Transport Company, the post-deregulation operating company.

Committee convener Raymond Mamie said the three — Ian Mackie, former transport convener, Wallace Thorn and W Scott Ferguson — should be removed as they no longer have places on the new regional council.

Mennie stated that, following the change in the make-up of the authority, there was a change in the emphasis and policies adopted with regard to bus users. "We need a board of directors who are in sympathy with the general thrust of this administration's views," he said.

He argued that the three no longer enjoy the confidence of the council and its electors and proposed that the chief executive write to them requesting their resignation.

• The Government has finally decided to scrap the helicopter link between London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

New Transport Secretary John Moore has instructed the Civil Aviation Authority not to give British Caledonian approval to resume the scheduled helicopter service between the two airports.

Moore told MPs that the environmental disturbance caused by the helicopter could not be justified when there is now a motorway link between them allowing for fast coach service.

• Aberdeen City District Council is to object to suggested changes in the bus routes operated by Grampian Regional Council in the city.

The council's policy ConiT mittee agreed to oppose the various amended routes and is to approach regional convener Geoff Hadley with its views on the matter.
