Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

T0 meet a demand for a tractor rather smaller than its well-known 18-30 agricultural type, Marshall, Sons and Co., Ltd., Gainsborough, is introducing a new model. The machine is, as yet, scarcely out of its experimental period, but, nevertheless, we understand that it will be on view, in test form, next week at the "Royal."

Resembling, in many respects, the existing model, the new tractor will be described as the 12-20, these figures referring to its power output. It will have a single-cylindered two-stroke compression-ignition engine, capable of exerting a steady torque from 500 r.p.m. to 700 r.p.m, and the design is notable for its simplicity and the economy of operation that it affords.

During trials the tractor has given encouraging results, the drawbar pull obtained being unusually high for a 20 blip. machine. The tests have been carried out with both steel and pneumatic-tyred wheels; and models having either type of equipment will be offered. In the former case the rims will be provided with 5-in. by 3-in. spade lugs, and special over-spuds will be available when pneumatics are specified. To enable the 'tractor to work under especially difficult conditions a differential lock will he incorporated.

The engine governor is equipped with hand control, by which the revolutions can be varied between the rates quoted earlier ; this constitutes a definite advantage when different types of imple ment are required to be driven. In this ' connection it is of interest that the belt pulley is of a size suitable for driving practically any type of thrasher used in this country. It will be possible to provide also a power take-off, a winding drum and electric lighting.
