VOLKSWAGEN Commercial Vehicles is expecting to see a healthy rise in its 2011 sales when the new Crafter goes on sale next month.

Sales for the first half of the year are already up by more than 19% compared with the same period last year, with more than 2,400 vehicle registrations. This has been helped by the launch of the Amarok pick-up – 240 of which have already been registered.

Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Simon Elliot says: “With our Van Centre network continuing to expand, and the new Crafter set to shake up the large van sector, we will continue to work hard to make more customers happy throughout the rest of the year.” The new Crafter will go on sale on 1 August with a revised interior and engine, with a range of pow er outputs from 107hp to 161hp. Derived from the 2-litre TDI common-rail engine found in the Trans porter and Amarok, the new engines will see emission levels in the latest Crafter drop by up to 20%, and fuel consumption increase by 29% on a MWB BlueMotion model compared to the outgoing 2.5litre engine.

The range includes a choice of three wheelbases, three roof heights and GVWs from 3 tonnes to 5 tonnes. Prices will start at £20,450 for the 107bhp CR30 model.
