CLEANING PRODUCTS manufacturer Unic International has been ined £5,000 after a machine fell onto an employee who was loading a lorry.
Nottingham Magistrates Court was told that in January 2009 a semi-electric stacker truck being used to lift and transport materials dropped over a kerb and fell onto the worker, fracturing his cheekbone and causing multiple skull injuries. The man spent 10 days in hospital, was off work for nearly three months and has long-term impaired vision.
Nottingham-based Unic was found guilty of breaching Regulation 4(3) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 in the prosecution brought by the Health and Safety Executive.
The company, which had pleaded not guilty, was also ordered to pay £18,000 costs.
