A COMPANY was given interim authority to continue operating after a partnership licence it had been wrongly working under was revoked. Now it has been granted a full licence by North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell.

Ashton-in-Makerfield-based Transvan Logistics had sought a new national licence for 29 vehicles and five trailers In February a licence held by Gary Jackson and Keith Lillev, tradingasTransvan Express, was revoked by the TC because the company had changed entity without applying for a fresh licence. There were also maintenance problems.

Vehicle examiner Peter Rimmer said one of the two delayed prohibitions issued during a recent maintenance investigation had been to a 3.5-tonne van which was not subject to the 0-licensing regime. In reply to Jonathan Backhouse, who appeared for the company, Rimmer said the only unsatisfactory aspects had been the prohibitions and the fact that the vans were not incorporated into the maintenance system. His overall impression was that the company was working hard to get it right.

Backhouse said the vans were now part of the system, being treated the same as authorised vehicles. There had been a significant improvement since the last public inquiry in February, with safety inspections now being carried out at the correct intervals.

There had been no convictions since February and the prohibition history had significantly improved, both in nature and number. Granting the application, subject to a number of maintenance undertakings, the TC commented that in February Lilley and Jackson had been open and straightforward.
