Many Operators Seek Tippers on B Licences WITH the holiday season in -full swing, Applications and Decisions this 'week are ',noticeably thinner from all areas, with 'few individual major applications. There are, however, several'applications for new B licences in . connection with . tipper operations, particularly. in the West . Midland area. Five applicants; between them; • are asking for licences to authorize 'eight tippers, totalling, altogether, 30 tons, naming A. Monk and Co:, Ltd., as their customer "for work On the.Birmingharn/ Bristol -MotorwaY.” Also inthis area,Bearer Transport, Ltd., of TamWorth,' want to Place four new B-licensed tippers, weighing over 25 tons, with a fairly wide (and useful) normal . user which could attract a, number of objections from local tipper

Here, a plant hirer, T. A. Blair, of Darlington, is asking the Authority for a 7-ton "dump truck" to carry road construction materials within the British Isles. The many tippers situated in Teesside will no doubt be carefully watching this one. Newcastle hauliers J. Scott and Son this week are applying to convert two flats into tippers with greatly increased unladen weight tonnage.
In the Yorkshire traffic area, there are applications from a dozen hauliers asking, in total, to put on the road under new B licences some 20-odd vehicles to carry goods for the X.R.E. Transport Company and other Yorkshire clearing houses "in connection with Tarmac, Ltd." An interesting point about this is that X.R.E. themselves arc one of the applicants. They ask, in their conditions, to carry goods for themselves-a Privilege other if-licensed 'hauliers' have been enjoying since the inception of the Act.
