Comprehensively Equipped Models With Three Types of Body and Normal or Forward Control the range of goods and passenger vehicles marketed by Dodge Brothers (Britain), Ltd., Mortlake Road, Kew Gardens, Surrey, a number of fire-figiating appliances is being added. They are based on the SL 2-ton and SLF 3-ton standard chassis. Both models are available with three types of body, namely, 13raidwood, New World and saloon. In the case of the first-named, seating accommodation is afforded for 12 men, on the main box, in addition to the driver and officer in front. There are lockers for hose and gear, whilst the first-aid equipment includes a 40-gallon copper tank, a positive-acting 71 g.p.m. pump driven from the power take-off and fed from the tank, a reel carrying 120 ft. of i.in. hose, and chemical extinguishing apparatus.

With regard to the New.World body, this is of the enclosed type and houses eight men, besides the two on the front seat. The saloon fire tender is of the limousine type and differs from the New World model in that the cab is incorporated in the body. Furthermore, the roof is reinforced for use as a platform, steps giving access to it being fixed at the rear. In all three cases provision is made for carrying a ladder, and the first-aid equipment is the same.

Both the SL and SLF chassis have a 12-ft. 6-in, wheelbase, but the former is of the normal-control type, whilst the latter has forward control. They are powered by six-cylindered 73 b.h.p. engines, and it is of note that the Scintilla Vertex magneto and coil dual ignition can be included if desired.

Of 500 g,p.m. at 80 lb. per sq. in., the pump is a Sinionis two-stage selfpriming turbine unit, and is mounted at the rear, the shaft driving it from the power-take-off amidships being provided with suitable universal joints. It has a single suction and four delivery branches, whilst pressure and vacuum gauges are provided. There are three 10-ft. lengths of 41-in. suction hose.

Engine cooling is by a by-pass from the main pump.

The prices of these fire-engines, to which must be added the standard chassis prices are: Braidwood, £623; New World, £863: saloon, £748. Firstaid equipment represents an additional outlay of £50-£100; a 'Dodge fully enclosed cab costs £12 extra, and a trailer drawbar can be provided for a further £5. A 35-ft. extension ladder is offered for £21 los.
