Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Handy Cleansing Machine Equipped with a 1 h.p. Engine, Suitable for Work in Restricted Areas FROM America we learn of an attractive small sweeper, suitable for factory floors, passageways and streets. Driven by a 1 h,p, engine, it sweeps. at 2.7 tn.p.h., and has all overall turning radius of 55 ins. Its rotary broom is effect k-e up to 1 ins, from kerb or wall and the sweepings are deposited into an 8-gallon (12.6-cubic ft.) container.

As can be seen from the accompanying picture, the sweeper has three pneumatic-tyred wheels.—two of 14 ins. and one of 12 ins. diameter—and two 3-in, castor wheels. The bulk of the weight is carried by the two driving wheels, whilst the third supports the operative and serves as a rudder. This steering attachment is removable and, when it is detached, the operative walks with the machine. Used thus, the turning radius is only 30 ins. The lever in the centre of the handlebar controls the clutch.

Included in the equipment is a 6-pint petrol tank, this quantity being sufficient for eight hours' work. A variety of types of broom is supplied from soft fibre for floorsweeping to stiff wire for streets. Rubbish ranging from fine dust to stones the size of hens' eggs can be handled. The pressure on the brush is not adjustable, but remains constant, automatically, as wear occurs. Having a width of SO ins, the brush is, initially, 10 ins, in diameter. The total weight of the machine is 240 lb.

Supplied with the "Flying Dust Pan," as the sweeper is named by its maker, the Howell Industrial Truck Co., 6,545, Carnegie Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, is a steel and timber container having a hinged door at one end. This serves both as a crate and as a convenient " garage " for the machine, which measures 76 ins, long by 30 ins. wide by 40 ins. high.
