Ford: Transit MoT failures are no cause for concern

FORD HAS DISMISSED the annual vehicle test failure rates recently released by VOSA.

The Ford Transit Connect was the worst-performing van. It had a failure rate of 30.5%. followed closely by its bigger brother, the Transit, with 26.3%.

The test figures, released by VOSA following a Freedom of Information request by the BBC, cover vehicles registered in 2004 and tested in 2007. However, the data is limited to the most popular models or those submitted for at least 20.000 vehicle tests.

Ford says the Transit's results are partly due to Ford having more vans in the vehicle pare than any other manufacturer.

A spokesman adds: -Vans aren't cared for in the same way as private cars, for instance, so there's a greater chance of them receiving a vehicle test failure because they're doing far more miles than any private passenger car."

VOSA was previously reluctant to publish the information, saying it would damage its relationship with manufacturers. It will now publish the results annually.
