Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers are being urged to descend on London in their thousands on 24 February in a "make or break" lobby of Parliament to ram home the message to politicians and the public alike that fuel duty rates are killing the industry.

Frank Stears, a leading member of campaign group TransAction, says that almost a year of protests and rallies against the excessive rates boils down to what happens next month.

"This is our last chance," he says. "If only a few hundred turn up on the day then we have obviously just wasted our time these past few months." Stears says the date was arranged with the support of the Road Haulage Association and the Freight Transport Association after Trans-Action threatened to lobby alone. He wants every haulier in the country, including Eddie Stobart, to send at least one representative.

"We want drivers to be talking about the lobby in every truckstop in the country," says Stears. "If someone says they will not be going then demand to know why."

The demo is due to reach Parliament at 14:00hrs. For details contact 0123'3 641421 or 0860 517700, or fax 01233 638817.
