• Manchester-based Salford Van Hire, which set up a contract hire division three years ago, completed 1987 with a record 2,000 vehicles on contract hire.
The company, which plans to expand in the South, says it will confirm 11 new contracts this month, and it hopes to bid for several operators which are up for sale. The 11 contracts, representing 150 vehicles, include deals with Manchester freight-forwarder Freightspeed, and Grangemouth timber merchant Christie Vesey.
