A NEW public service vehicle inspection service, developed jointly by the Freight Transport Association and the Confederation of Passenger Transport, looks like having saved a Bristol coach operator from a lot of trouble.

A. W. Durbin, proprietor of Western Road Ways Luxury Coaches, Bristol, appeared before the South Western Traffic Commissioners as a result of 10 prohibition orders issued against the company's coaches.

This followed a previous inquiry when four of the company's public service licences were revoked due to brake, steering and tyre defects.

After having the new inspection service scheme explained to them by M. A. C. Keast, south western regional engineer of the ETA, and the fact that Mr Durbin was going to be the first operator to make use of the service, the Traffic Commissioners decided not to revoke or suspend any of the company's licences.
