QEPARATION of the finances of the Ulster. Transport Authority'S passenger and freight services, so that fares are not inflated to support uneconomic freight charges, is urged in a resolution adopted by the East Down Unionist Association.

The resolution, sponsored by the Baltynahinch branch, also asks that the Transport Act should be amended to permit the operation of privately owned buses for private hire, and to admit into Northern Ireland touring coaches from Britain.

Mr. E. M'Veigh., who proposed the resolution, said that about 30 per cent. of the country's population travelled to and from work by bus. These people should not be asked to subsidize freight services by paying • higher fares.
