nESPITE objections by the British

Transport Commission and five independent operators, the Transport Tribunal on Tuesday increased from 20 miles to 60 miles the radius of operation of Mr. F. G. Rainbow, a Rugby furniture remover. They refused, however, to allow him an extra vehicle under a B licence.

Mr. Rainbow appealed against the West Midland Deputy. Licensing Authority's decision to refuse the additional vehicle and •to limit his operations to 20 miles.

Mr. Hubert Hull, president, said: "These furniture removal cases are always difficult, because it is impossible in the nature of the trade to produce the sort of evidence generally required to justify an addition to, or amplification of, an existing licence. It is impossible to produce a body of 'evidence showing there is a number of people anxious to employ a furniture remover, but, on the Whole, we have decided that he [Mr. Rainbow) ought to have a wider range."

Mr. Rainbow, who conducted his own .case, had contended that there were many people moving into and out of Rugby, and in many cases he had had to sub-contract removals because his licence did not permit him to go far enough. His one vehicle, he said, had earned £1,400 in a year, which showed that it was employed practically fulltime.
