depot I of British Road Services, with 11 vehicles, had been sold to Mr. J. Hodgson, Melkinthorpe, a long-distance operator with 18 vehicles running from Glasgow to Manchester and Liverpool, caused an application before the Northern Licensing Authority to be adjourned on Monday.
Mr. F. T. Steadman, Chapel Street, Bolton, near Appleby, sought an A licence for a livestock vehicle. He was the driver of such a vehicle based at Bolton, and part of the Penrith depot, and sought to continue the service on his own account.
Mr. R. Davies, manager of the Carlisle group of B.R.S., who told the court about the sale of the Penrith depot, supported Mr. Steadman. Witness did not believe the Penrith vehicles would carry cattle, as the purchaser was "not a livestock man."
The Authority pointed out that Mr. Hodgson had bought the Bolton vehicle and its licence. "Jr think this is a proper case in which I ought to find out what -Mr. Hodgson's intentions are," he said.
