Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

if the nut is working loose, is the latest idea for beating the danger of lost wheels.

If the arrow moves it means that the nut is slack, says Mike Marczynski of Manchester, who hopes to patent the design.

Marczynski, whose firm is called Business Lines, says the product will cost around E25 for a set of 120 rings — enough to fit all the wheels on a six-axle artic.

He came up with the idea after loose wheel nuts on a truck belonging to his other company, tank wash specialist Tank-Clean, almost caused a serious accident.

"The driver returned saying his steering had gone," Marczynski recalls. "All his wheel nuts were loose. How the wheel had not come off I'll never know."

He has also been following Commercial Motor 's Wheel Loss campaign, which has highlighted the need for research into the mystery of why seemingly wellmaintained truck wheels come off at speed. Donations can still be made to the campaign, which needs to reach a total of 230,000. Send cheques payable to Commercial Motor Wheels Fund, to CM, Quadrant House, The Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey SM2 5AS.
