Fuel Filters A NEW range of " bowl-less " type fuel filters has been Pl. developed by Crosland Filters Ltd., a member of the Simms group of companies. They are called "No-Bowl " filters and the filtration medium is high-density resinimpregnated paper arranged in vertical pleats within the element canister.

Singleand twin-element versions are available with ports arranged to suit particular requirements. Oil flow in the twin element models can be in series for two-stage filtration or in parallel to accommodate high flow rates. Efficiency tests are said to have shown that 98 per cent of the contaminant entering the filter was retained within the canister.

The filter canister is held up to the top casting by a plate on its underside fixed by a bolt going right through the filter. Only 0-375 in. clearance is required underneath the filter for element replacement. A leaflet is available.

A SPECIAL version of the Model 200 ND/REC series rotary PA pump has been developed by Stainless Steel Pumps Ltd., . to make it suitable to be driven by a C.A.V. 24 V d.c. electric motor for loading and discharge of bulk liquids on road tankers. Drive from the motor to the pump is by a Fenner Timing belt and the two units can be mounted on a base plate if required.

Many of the standard design of 200 ND/REC pumps are already used on road vehicles—driven from a power take-off for example—and they are suitable for handling all types of liquid, including syrups, wine, chocolate, latex solutions, synthetic resins and so on. In standard form, all parts in contact with the fluid are made from stainless steel but other materials such as nickel, aluminium, bronze and so on can be used when required. Rotors are made from stainless steel or nylon as preferred. Pump capacity is 70-80 gat per minute of milk, wine or similar fluids against a delivery head of up to 40 or Soft. when operating at a speed of about 700 r.p.m. When used with the C.A.V. motor 70 to 75 amp. is taken from a 24-volt battery.

Changing the ratio of the Fenner Timing belt pulley drive is said to be easy and enables the pump to be driven at speeds lower than 700 r.p.m. for handling more viscous types of fluids such as heavy syrup and chocolate.
