Mr. Edward Player has retired from his positions as deputy chairman and managing director of Birmid Industries Ltd. and from directorships of the subsidiary companies for which he was directly responsible. He will be succeeded as managing director of Birmid by Mr. G. A. Rider, who wilt take up this position on March 10. Mr. Rider joined the board in 1955 and became deputy managing director in 1960.

Mr. F. W. Hardstone has joined the board of Armstrong Equipment Ltd., manufacturers of shock absorbers, suspension and hydraulic equipment.

Mr. V. A. Macmillan has been appointed overall company marketing manager of Wingard Ltd. This is a new position, to provide a closer co-ordination of all company and subsidiary company marketing operations. Mr. Macmillan joined Wingard four years ago as accessory sales manager.

Mr. P. Durnford has been appointed manager of the East Central region of A.E.C. Ltd., following the recent appointment of Mr. R. E. W. Holmes as deputy home sales manager. Mr. Dumford joined A.E.C. in 1935.

Mr. G. Selwyn Smith was, at the annual general meeting on Monday, elected a life governor of the Motor and Cycle Trades Benevolent Fund (BEN) in recognition of his 40 years of active work on behalf of the London centre. Mr. Smith is to retire from the committee of the centre. Mr. J. V. Collins retired as chairman after five years' office, and was succeeded by Mr. L. Levy.

Mr. Monty Prichard, managing director of F. Perkins Ltd., will be in Australia on a two-week business visit from March 6. His company is already associated with Australian industry through its manufacturing and sales organization, F. Perkins (Australia) Pty. Ltd., of Dandenong, Victoria. Perkins diesels will be on display at the 'British Exhibition and during the British fortnight at Sydney from September 25 to October 10. Mr. Prichard is also visiting Singapore, India and North America.
