IVE Thornycroft aircraft-fire tenders. based on the Nubian petrol-engined six-wheel-drive cross-country chassis, have been built to the order of the Director of Civil Aviation. Federation

of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Bodywork and equipment are by Sun Engineering (Richmond). Ltd.

Rectangular-section steel tanks carry 750 gal, of water and 100 gal. of foam compound, the water tank being supported on Sun three-point rubberized suspension. Provision is made for carrying sik 60-1b. carbon-dioxide cylinders.

Mounted mid-way, along the chassis, 700-g.p.m, centrifugal pump is driven from a power take-off oh the chassis

distribution gearbox. Foam can be produced at a rate of up to 7,000 g.p.m. and the input of foam compound to the pump is automatically controlled in accordance with the delivery demand by means of a Sun Vactrol unit.

To facilitate repairs and general overhauls, the all-steel body is detachable in sections.
