THE new organization, brought into being by the merger of the C.M.U.A. and A.R.O., will, as previously announced in The Commercia2 Motor, come into effective operation on

October 1. Details were given last week of the progress of the merger in the various areas throughout the coun try and the first official announcement of new appointments at headquarters has now been made, MR. F. G. Baisrow, C.I3.E., F.C.I.S., M.Inst.T., Barrister-at-Law, is to be chief executive officer of the new organization. Mr. Bristow has been general secretary of the C.M.U.A. since 1910, and he is well known in many spheres of activity in connection with road transport. Since 1918, he has been general secretary to the Motor Transport Employers Federation and he is one of the representatives of the Federation on the National Joint Conciliation Board for the Road Motor Transport Industry (Goods).

Mr. Bristow . has been concerned with wages and labour negotiations since 1919, when he acted as joint honorary secretary to the Joint Industrial Council for the Road Transport Industry. He has been intimately connected with bodies dealing with motor legislation, fuel, road safety and traffic regulation.

New Administrative Officer.

A new appointment is that of MR. D. N. McConmacx, F.C.A., to be the 'national administrative officer of the new Association. Mr. McCormack, who is 35, was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1929; he commenced practising at Woolwich in 1924. In that year, he was appointed external accountant and auditor for A. Timpson and Sons, Ltd., of Catford, the well-known South London coach operator. In 1931, he was appointed chief accountant to this concern, being responsible for the financial control, statistics and staff, etc.

The traffic of the Timpson concern has now reached a figure of over 2,000,000 passengers per annum. In addition to its head offices and garage at Catford, the company operates three subsidiary garages and nine branch offices. The Timpson fleet

now comprises more than 125 vehicles.

Mr. McCormack was appointed independent chairman at the inaugural meeting of public service vehicle operators, held in 1932, which resulted in the formation, in that year, of P.S.V. Operators, Ltd. This concern now controls approaching 1,350 agents,

having an annual turnover in •the region of £250,000.

In addition to these activities, Mr. McCormack was elected a member of the National Council of A.R.O. in 1935, and was subsequently appointed to a number of committees, including the Finance Committee of that Association.
