Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The latest commercial breakdown service for trucks, introduced last week, breaks new ground with no membership or registration fees and a single call-out charge, claims the RAC.

RAC Commercial Services replaces RAC Octagon, which like services such as AA Truck Rescue, had a fleet membership fee and a sliding scale of charges.

"Research showed a demand for a service which was available but cost nothing if it wasn't used," says a spokesman. Attendance fees of £80 cover the first hour's labour and callout charges seven days a week.

The RAC says 65% of breakdowns are rectified within this time giving their service a lead.

AA Truck Rescue says its service is pay-as-you-use with a nominal membership fee based on the fleet size.

Its annual membership for a three to five trucks costs £40 plus VAT, but call-out varies from £10-£24. Roadside repair rate is at £34.50 per hour with a £44 tow charge up to 24 tonnes.

The new service charges LGVs under 16.9 tonnes £35 per subsequent hour, with heavier vehicle rates at £50 towed or repaired.
