Offset barn doors at the rear allow for a single, centrally fitted grain hatch.

Wilcox completes its five exhibits with the ingenious Autofloor body that provides an unloading capability where tipping is impossible, impractical or just dangerous. The 12.2m (40ft) body has a 72.6m3 (95yd3) capacity but can be operated by one man, taking only seven minutes to unload automatically.

TIPPING GEAR

Ultimate Hydraulics has an example of the new UK-made Harsh tipping gear on an 8x4 Mercedes chassis. The underfloor frame, which provides the rigidity of the system, is manufactured by Milltech, a division of Tate and Lyle, in Hull.

Tadchurch rubber suspension is now available as a factory fitment to the Leyland Daf constructor six, lightweight eightwheeler and Constructor eight range. Volvo has made the suspension available for its sixand eight-wheelers, while York Trailers have made it standard for its Quarryman range of articulated trailers.

Southworth claims the most cost effective vehicle at the show is a threeaxle Leyland Freighter equipped with its lifting mid-axle. It offers about 50% more payload than a 16-tonner, yet costs 2400 less a year to tax.

SAF's new RS 9042-series lightweight axle saves 105kg over the standard SAF tri-axle air suspension system. The singletube axle beam, designed without welded stud ends, created the need for two equal size wheel-bearings and is said to be stronger than conventional axle beams.

Kangaroo landing legs from Dayton Walther have a static capacity of 68,000kg and lifting capacity of 12,000kg per leg. While it has two speed options, the legs can be folded — once the feet have cleared the ground — to speed up loading.

Eaton's SAMT transmission, based on the Twin Splitter transmission, combines intelligent electronics with proven, easyto-service mechanical components. It has been in limited production since the end of last year.

BPW claims to produce the lightest air suspension package available, at only 424kg per axle set. This uses quarterelliptic composite springs to locate a square-section axle-beam, and lightweight hub and brake drum assemblies.

The air suspension can be specified to suit individual applications and offers a choice of ride heights between 180mm and 500mm.

SKIPLOADER

In the last few weeks a new skip-loader has been introduced by Hy-va. The Hyvalift 10, competing with the 16.26-tonne

market, has a weight of 2,000kg. This, combined with box-section cross-bearers, demountable top bar and roller jacks, allows for A-frame drawbar operation.
