Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Uncertainty over the future of Pontypridd-based Taff-Ely Transport has been resolved following a crisis meeting between management, unions and the !•Ncal authority.

The company looked set to become the first arms-length municipal operator to go to the wall, but now managing director Geraint Parry says: "We are going to try and make the company viable." He added that a plan had been produced for more efficient working, but there would be no redundancies — there might even be expansion — and there would be no merger with Inter Valley Link, he added.

His statement followed rumours that the Rhymney Valley-owned municipal company, based in Caerphilly, was going to buy Taff-Ely.

The Taff-Ely fleet is all single deck, including eight Leyland Nationals, three Dennis and nine midibuses (two Dodges and seven Optare City Pacers).

The company has been fighting off fierce competition from a local independent operator, Clayton Jones.
