• What amounts to a showdown with local authorities in its area has been created by Scottish Omnibuses Ltd. The company has applied to the Traffic Commissioners to curtail or withdraw 30 of its services in the counties of Roxburgh, Selkirk and Peebles.
Lengthy discussions have been continuing between all companies in the Scottish Bus Group — of which Scottish Omnibuses is but one — and local authorities. Little progress has been made in these negotiations, the local authorities being apparently reluctant to make use of the provisions of the 1968 Transport Act to subsidize loss-making rural services.
